NAF Intensifies Airstrikes on Terrorists in Sokoto and Northwest

The Nigerian Air Force has stepped up air strikes against terrorists and bandits operating in Sokoto State and across the Northwest, disrupting their movements and limiting their ability to operate freely.
NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said in a statement on Tuesday that the sustained aerial operations are part of efforts to keep pressure on hostile groups, improve surveillance, and respond quickly to emerging threats.
He noted that the increased air presence is key to tackling asymmetric threats. Terrorists and bandits often use rough terrain, mobility and cover to escape ground troops. According to him, airpower gives the military the reach, speed and precision needed to locate, disrupt and weaken these groups, while also opening space for ground forces to advance.
“The NAF will continue to provide effective air support to ground forces operating within the Joint Operations Area,” Ejodame said.
He added that coordination between air and ground troops remains critical to dealing with the changing security situation in the region.
Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, said the Service will keep using airpower strategically to support joint operations.
“Our objective is clear: to sustain the pressure on criminal elements, deny them freedom of action and create the conditions for our surface forces to dominate the operational environment,” he stated.
Aneke stressed that the current security challenges demand timely intelligence, quick air response, and smooth collaboration with the Army and other agencies. He said the NAF will continue to operate “intelligently, professionally and decisively” while prioritizing civilian safety.
He also said the Air Force remains committed to working with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to protect lives, dismantle terrorist networks, and restore peace and stability across the Northwest.
The CAS urged Nigerians to support the operations by providing timely and credible information to security authorities.
The NAF said it will maintain high operational readiness to ensure that hostile elements are denied the freedom to attack communities.
