INEC Releases List of Nasarawa Governorship Candidates, Ex-IGP Adamu’s Name Missing

By Victor Idajili

The Independent National Electoral Commission has published the list of candidates cleared to contest the Nasarawa State governorship election, and the name of former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, is not on it.

According to the list released by INEC, the candidates are:
Ahmed Aliyu Wadada of the All Progressives Congress; Musa Adamu Angbazo of the Social Democratic Party; Dahiru Musa Doma of the Action People’s Party; Jonathan Gaza Gbefwi of the Labour Party; Retired Major General Nuhu Angbazo of the African Democratic Congress; Emmanuel David Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party; and Ibrahim Kasimu Aboh of the All Progressives Grand Alliance.

Others are Christopher Mamman of the Action Democratic Party; Abdullahi Omame Abisabo of the Peoples Redemption Party; Abubakar Abdu Giza of the Zenith Labour Party; Mohammed Awwal Suleiman of the Allied People’s Movement; Abdullah Bukhari of the Action Alliance; Kigbu John Tanko of the Young Progressives Party; Dogo Danladi Shammah of the Nigeria Democratic Congress Party; and Shuaibu Umaru Kubi of Accord.

Despite the omission, the Director General of Adamu’s Gubernatorial Campaign Organisation, Abdullahi Yammani, said the former IGP has registered with the SDP and remains in the race.

Yammani said Adamu completed his registration online with the SDP after resigning from the APC, where he lost the governorship primary.

“The Ex-IGP, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, has officially registered with the Social Democratic Party, online. He is fully in the race and ready to contest the governorship of Nasarawa State,” Yammani stated.

He added that the decision followed consultations with stakeholders across the 13 local government areas of the state, and that Adamu intends to use his experience in security and governance to address the state’s challenges.

The INEC list currently has “Musa Adamu Angbazo” as the SDP candidate. Yammani expressed confidence the discrepancy would be sorted out, saying the campaign team has all the necessary documents to prove Adamu’s registration and candidacy under the SDP.

The development is expected to spark more political discussions in the state as parties ramp up preparations for the election. INEC’s timetable still allows for substitution or replacement of candidates within the stipulated period.
