Electoral Act 2026 Fails Nigerians – IPAC Warns Of Possible Election Boycott.

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has criticised the amended Electoral Act, saying it offers no real benefit to Nigerians.
IPAC Chairman, Yusuf Dantalle, made the comments on Thursday during an interview on Arise Television.
He explained that the council had reviewed and harmonised its recommendations on the Electoral Act and Constitution, which were submitted to the National Assembly, but none of the suggestions were adopted.
“Several anomalies we highlighted are still present in the new law. The Electoral Act does not serve the interests of Nigerians,” Dantalle said.
He added, “During the review of the Electoral Act and the Constitution, IPAC—representing all political parties—made our positions clear. We submitted and harmonised them with the National Assembly Joint Committee on the Electoral Act Amendment and the Constitution. Unfortunately, none of these recommendations were implemented.
“The critical questions are: What does this achieve? How will it benefit Nigeria? How will it strengthen democracy or improve the system?” he asked.
Dantalle also pointed to previous issues with linking phone lines to the National Identification Number (NIN), noting that deadlines had to be extended because the government could not meet them. He questioned the rush to pass and sign the Electoral Act, emphasising that it will affect every Nigerian by determining key administrative positions.
