₦500,000 Paid for Acid Attack on Spa Worker, Suspect Confesses

By Victor Idajili

A 37-year-old man, Ziaulihak Zakari, also known as Abuja, has admitted to being paid ₦500,000 to carry out an acid attack on a female spa worker in Lakowe, Lagos -but says he ended up hurting the wrong person.

The victim, Olorunseunfunmi Awosogbon, suffered serious burns to her head, chest and hands after the attack on October 25, 2025. She had gone to Lakowe Golf Gate, near Utmost Care Hospital, for a home service appointment booked through her spa.

According to her employer, Olorunmaye Ifeoluwa, the attack was linked to a past relationship dispute between her and another suspect, Owolabi Daniel, who is alleged to have hired Zakari. Ifeoluwa said the relationship lasted a few months and ended after repeated disagreements.

Zakari and Owolabi have now been arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Ebute-Metta on charges of conspiracy, threat to life and causing bodily harm.

In a video obtained by our reporter on Thursday, Zakari said he was recruited for the job in March 2026 by a man named Daniel, who reached out through a security guard.

“Daniel said he needed someone to pour acid on a person and I agreed,” Zakari said. “I backed out the first time because I was scared. When the chance came again, I mistook the target and attacked the wrong woman. The acid was bought by Daniel and the security guard. I got ₦500,000 for it and gave the guard ₦50,000 for connecting me.” He said he now regrets what he did.

Court documents allege that the two suspects conspired in October 2025 to threaten Ifeoluwa’s life and cause harm, in violation of Section 411 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015. Owolabi is also accused of sending threatening WhatsApp messages to Ifeoluwa, an offence under Section 232 of the same law.

Zakari faces an additional charge of unlawfully wounding Awosogbon with a corrosive substance under Section 246 of the Lagos State Criminal Law.
