TCN Secures $1.4bn Funding, Increases Transmission Capacity to 8, 700MW

The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has secured $1.4 billion in funding to expand and strengthen the country’s power grid.

With the new investment, TCN says it has successfully raised national transmission capacity to 8,700 megawatts.

The funding is expected to support ongoing grid expansion projects, upgrade aging infrastructure, and reduce transmission bottlenecks that have long limited power delivery to distribution companies and end users.

TCN noted that the capacity boost will help improve electricity supply stability and enable more power to be wheeled across the network, especially to industrial clusters and high-demand areas.

The company said the move aligns with Federal Government efforts to close the gap between power generated and power delivered, as part of broader reforms in the power sector.
