The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State has confirmed receiving the resignation letter of its national leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso

In a statement on Sunday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Karaye, said Kwankwaso’s defection was expected, noting it came after consultations among opposition parties aiming to build a stronger alliance for upcoming elections.

The NNPP explained that the move is part of broader efforts to unite opposition figures to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) and put the country on a better path.

Despite his resignation, the party expressed gratitude to Kwankwaso for his contributions over the past three years, highlighting the political gains achieved under his leadership, including producing a governor, senators, House of Representatives members, and several state assembly officials.

“We thank our National Leader for strengthening the party as one of Nigeria’s leading opposition platforms,” the statement said, also wishing him success in the 2027 general elections and his future political endeavours.
