The Kogi State Police Command has inducted 565 newly trained constables to strengthen its fight against banditry and other violent crimes in the state.
State Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, disclosed this yesterday at the command headquarters in Lokoja during the passing-out ceremony for the two-month weapon handling and marksmanship training.
CP Kankarofi said the programme, which began April 13, 2026, was designed to improve operational efficiency and professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force amid rising insecurity.
“The Kogi State Police Command remains committed to improving the competence of its personnel through regular training and retraining in line with the Inspector-General of Police’s vision for a professionally competent, service-driven, and people-friendly Police Force,” he said.
According to the CP, the training equipped officers with practical skills in the safe handling, maintenance, and effective use of firearms. It also emphasized professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights.
He added that the initiative aligns with the strategic vision of IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu to build capacity among young officers and create a more responsive policing system.
“The training is aimed at strengthening the capacity of police personnel to address contemporary security challenges and improve public safety,” Kankarofi stated.
Commending the constables for their discipline and commitment, the CP charged them to apply their training responsibly.
“Firearms entrusted to personnel are meant solely for the protection of lives and property and must be handled with utmost responsibility and professionalism,” he warned.
He also appreciated the IGP for his support for personnel development, as well as the instructors and facilitators who made the programme successful.
