ICPC Starts Tracking N530m Worth of Projects in Jigawa

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has begun monitoring government projects worth more than N530 million across Jigawa State.

Farouq Umar, who leads the ICPC tracking team, announced this in Dutse on Wednesday during a media briefing.

Umar said the inspection falls under “Phase 8B” of the commission’s nationwide project tracking exercise. The focus is on both Constituency and Executive projects to verify that they were executed according to approved plans and standards.

“This phase is about assessing the status of various projects to ensure public funds are used properly and citizens get quality infrastructure and services,” he said.

He noted that the exercise aligns with ICPC’s mandate of promoting transparency and accountability in the execution of public projects.

According to him, the projects under review include boreholes, solar-powered street lights, and several empowerment programmes.

Umar called on residents, traditional and religious leaders, and civil society organizations in Jigawa to support the process by reporting substandard jobs or misuse of funds in their communities.

He also urged citizens to take ownership of completed projects and protect them from vandalism.

“The government has done its part by providing these amenities, and the responsibility of protecting them now lies with the citizens,” he said.
