Dahiru Barau Mangal Foundation Gives Free Surgery and Eye Care to 2,700 Patients in Katsina

Over 2,700 vulnerable people in Katsina State are receiving free treatment for hernia, hydrocele and eye conditions, courtesy of the Dahiru Barau Mangal Foundation’s healthcare outreach.

The foundation says more than 30,000 indigent patients have benefited from its medical programmes across Katsina since 2018.

Speaking at the launch of the surgery programme at Katsina General Hospital, Board of Trustees member Hussaini Kabir said about 700 patients from Katsina and nearby states will have free operations.

“The goal is simple: give poor and vulnerable people access to quality healthcare they otherwise couldn’t afford,” Kabir said.

Patients with hernia and hydrocele are being screened first. Those who need surgery get it at no cost. Patients with milder cases are receiving free medication instead.

“The programme is fully sponsored by Alhaji Dahiru Bara’u Mangal and runs periodically to reach more people who need help,” he added.

Alongside the surgeries, the foundation has started screening and treating about 2,000 patients with various eye problems at the Katsina Eye Centre.

Those who need glasses are getting them free. Patients requiring eye surgery have been scheduled for free operations.

“It’s life-changing” — beneficiaries
For many families, the intervention came at the right time.

Malama Zulaihat Adamu from Jibia said her son will finally have a hernia operation after years of delay because they couldn’t afford it.

She thanked the foundation for lifting the financial burden on poor households and giving many patients “a new lease of life.”
