Governor Ademola Adeleke is ahead of his All Progressives Congress rival, Bola Oyebamiji, by more than 60,000 votes after results from 14 local government areas were declared in the Osun State election.

According to figures released by INEC local government collation centres, Adeleke, who is running on the platform of the Accord Party, has so far polled 268,957 votes. Oyebamiji of the APC trails with 204,809 votes. That puts the margin between them at 64,148 votes.

Adeleke has won in nine LGAs while the APC has taken five.

The governor recorded his biggest wins in his strongholds. In Ede North he scored 35,427 votes against the APC’s 10,283. In the state capital, Osogbo, he pulled 36,480 votes to beat the APC’s 30,474.

He also dominated Ede South with 26,188 votes to 6,219 for the APC, and Iwo where he got 27,085 votes against 19,660 for his challenger.

The APC, however, picked up victories in Irepodun with 15,713 votes against Adeleke’s 14,502, and in Obokun where it had 16,120 votes to 12,023. The party also won Ola-Oluwa, Atakunmosa East and Ife South.

The results so far only cover 14 of Osun’s 30 LGAs, so the final winner cannot be determined yet.

Collation is still ongoing at INEC offices across the state ahead of the official announcement of the winner.
