The Oyo State Police Command has rescued Mrs Busayo Adelabu-John Paul, sister of former Power Minister Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, days after their abduction in Ibadan.
Police Public Relations Officer DSP Olayinka Ayanlade confirmed the successful rescue in a statement to journalists Saturday night.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the three were kidnapped in the early hours of June 3 while Mrs Adelabu-John Paul was taking the twins to school. Armed gunmen intercepted her at Elewura, Challenge area of Ibadan and forced her away with the boys.
The incident sent shockwaves through the family and Oyo’s political circles, given Chief Adelabu’s profile as a former minister and APC governorship hopeful.
Chief Adelabu’s media aide, Mr Femi Awogboro, said the family was grateful for the concern and support received during the ordeal.
He acknowledged the Oyo State Government, security agencies, the media and friends for their contributions toward the victims’ safe release.
Awogboro confirmed that Mrs Adelabu-John Paul and the twins were unhurt and have been reunited with the family.
