2027: Why Nigerians May Forgive Tinubu And Re-Elect Him

By Victor Idajili

Borno South Senator, Ali Ndume, has stated that President Bola Tinubu’s chances in the 2027 election will ultimately be determined by Nigerians

Ndume noted that voters could give Tinubu another chance if the government’s reforms begin to produce tangible results and the president seeks their forgiveness.

According to him, while Tinubu has made notable achievements, these efforts are being overshadowed by ongoing insecurity and concerns over citizens’ welfare.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, the lawmaker acknowledged that although many Nigerians are currently dissatisfied with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), they are also known for being forgiving, especially when conditions improve.

He further downplayed the strength of the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC), insisting it does not pose a significant threat to the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.

Ndume said, “Our major challenges remain security and the welfare of the people. If the government’s policies begin to yield positive results, Nigerians will appreciate it. One thing about Nigerians is that they are forgiving—if you make mistakes and seek forgiveness, or if things improve, they tend to move on.

“So, the APC should not be written off. While I won’t say Nigerians are entirely satisfied with our performance, I also don’t see the opposition as a major threat because, at the end of the day, we are all politicians.”
