Northern Christians commend DSS for arrests over Papiri School abduction

The Northern Christian Association has praised the Department of State Services for arresting five suspects allegedly linked to the November 2025 abduction of students and staff at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Niger State.

NCA Chairman Rev. Joseph John Hayab said yesterday that Nigerians should acknowledge security successes, not just criticise failures.

“We must also recognise positive outcomes when they occur,” Hayab said in a statement. He noted that the suspects were allegedly involved in supplying arms to criminal groups, and called the arrests proof that sustained intelligence gathering and coordinated operations can curb insecurity.

He said breaking the networks that provide weapons and logistics to terrorists is critical to reducing attacks on innocent citizens and vulnerable communities.

Hayab also acknowledged security personnel who risk their lives despite being frequent targets. He urged the DSS and other agencies to ensure thorough investigations and prosecute everyone connected to the crime.

“Do not be discouraged in your commitment to protecting the nation,” he told security operatives. He expressed confidence that collaboration among agencies, communities and stakeholders will advance Nigeria’s goal of peace and unity.

The NCA chairman urged the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify the fight against terrorism and violent crime to restore public confidence and strengthen national security.

DSS Director-General Mr. Oluwatosin Ajayi led the operation that resulted in the arrests.
