Navy Intercepts 757kg of Cannabis in Lagos, Hands Over to NDLEA
By Victor Idajili

The Nigerian Navy has seized 757kg of suspected cannabis sativa in Lagos and handed it over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The drugs were recovered in 18 bags during three separate operations by NNS BEECROFT between April 7 and July 17.
The handover was done on Friday at the Navy Base, Apapa, Lagos.
Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, Commander of NNS BEECROFT, said the operations were intelligence-led.
He gave the breakdown:
5 bags intercepted at Abule Osun on April 7,
2 bags intercepted at Ikare Island on April 13.
11 bags intercepted at Alpha Beach on July 15
Adams-Aliu credited the success to the Nigerian Navy Western Regional Control Centre, codenamed ‘Falcon Eye’.
The facility uses long-range cameras and sensors to monitor coastal waters beyond the reach of patrol boats, providing real-time intelligence that helps teams intercept suspects early.
He said the recoveries reflect the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas’s push for technology-driven security.
The base, he added, will sustain intelligence-driven operations against drug trafficking and other maritime crimes, working closely with the NDLEA.
Receiving the consignment on behalf of the NDLEA Marine Command, Commander Narcotics, Luka Yerima, commended the Navy’s partnership.
He said the agency remains committed to collaborating with security services to tackle organised crime.
Yerima added that the seized cannabis will undergo forensic examination as investigations continue into the trafficking network behind the seizures.
